About the NikoBiz Project
The Niko biz project is a UK Kenya Tech Hub (UKKTH) sponsored initiative that seeks to build the capacity of youths, women and PWDs at grassroot level to tap into the power of digital technology to create gainful self-employment opportunities through digital entrepreneurship in creative economy, Gig economy and Agriculture. With a high youth unemployment rate in Kenya, Niko Biz aims to harness the entrepreneurial nature of the youth, women and PWDs and capacity to create more sustainable small businesses.
The UKKTH is a project under the Digital Access Programme (DAP). DAP is an initiative led by the UK Department for the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) The program operates in five countries: Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Brazil and Indonesia. The objective of the Program is to catalyze affordable, inclusive, safe, and secure digital access for underserved or excluded populations; and to use this as a basis for a more thriving digital ecosystem that generates digital solutions to local development challenges, as well as skilled jobs in the local digital economy.
Objectives of the Niko Biz Project:
Capacity Building
To build the capacity of grassroots ecosystem to support job creation through digital entrepreneurship, creative economy, and agribusiness by providing TOT training to 30 successful entrepreneurs.
Training & Mentorship
Train, mentor and Coach 200 skilled and talented venerable youths and PWDS in Kisumu, Nairobi and Mombasa on how to monetize and commercialize their skills into sustainable business in Agriculture, Creative and Gig economy sectors.
Create Employment
Create 600 gainful employment opportunities for skilled youth, women and PWDs in Kisumu, Nairobi and Mombasa as a result of launching 200 youth led businesses in Gig/creative economy, and agribusiness sectors.

Training focuses on these paths.
Selected youth will undergo Sasakazi Digital platform vetting to Identify their talents through work readiness and digital Competence assessments. Based on their competence levels, interests, Work Preference and Skills qualifications they will be onboarded on to either of the following self-employment pathways:
Tracks:
- Small farming/Agribusiness track: under this track participants will be provided with entrepreneurial and business skills on how to establish and manage a small farming business. The small business could be Beekeeping, Fish Farming, Goat farming, Rabbit keeping, Vegetable/ Micro green farming, Mushroom Farming, Poultry farming and Organic Farming
- Creative Economy Track: Under this track the participants will be provided with entrepreneurial and business skills on how to use technology to build, commercialize and monetize their creative talents. This includes creative digital content, Edutainment, online social media content with gaming elements or cartoons, games, TV shows, or other materials that intend to be both educational and enjoyable.
- Gig economy track: under this track the participants will be trained on how to establish an online freelancing business as gig workers. The digital skills services provide include graphic design, Social media marketing, Coding and Web Development and Mobile Apps.
